The NFL is back... So is fantasy football

It’s hard to believe that the NFL preseason kicks off next Thursday.

The Las Vegas Raiders will square off against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday, Aug. 4.

With the beginning of football season around the corner, that only means one thing; fantasy football is back.

Fantasy football is the best thing about football season. It gives football fans something to invest in and build on while in the comfort of their own home.

Fantasy football has changed a lot since it first started back in the 1980s. No more are the days of in-person drafts or waiting until Monday for the results of your fantasy matchup.

Now, there’s almost more fantasy sports platforms than social media platforms, all of which provide different experiences and customizations.

One of my personal favorite types of fantasy football leagues are dynasty formats.

Essentially, you get to play general manager over your own fantasy team.

Instead of re-drafting every year, the team you drafted the year prior follows you into the next year.

This makes draft strategy, and trades that more difficult. While drafting in a dynasty league, you’re not necessarily looking for a ‘right now’ solution; you’re looking for pieces that will be around for the long term, almost like a real NFL general manager.

Through this process, you’ll see people beginning to trade players once they reach a certain age to move up in the draft to get a rookie.

If the full general manager experience is something you're chasing, a dynasty fantasy football league might just be for you.

Other things I would suggest, if you’re looking to spice things up in your league, get rid of the kicker position.

I agree, there’s no better feeling than being the person to draft Justin Tucker, but you’ll always have to reach for him, and after Tucker you’re basically getting the same production.

Instead of a kicker, I’d suggest adding an extra flex spot for either a wide receiver, tight end, running back, or even a quarterback.

On the same token, if you’re trying to change things up, consider getting rid of team defenses and adding a defensive player.

Adding a defensive player to the mix will bring all sorts of excitement and intrigue to your league. Whether you decide to go pass rusher, cornerback or linebacker.
