Police Calls: Up, up and away with some house wrap

May 15
8:15 a.m. She found a small black dog with a black and white face and is walking it on a leash, door to door, looking for the dog’s owner. The caller is willing to keep the pup until the owner is found.
9:00 a.m. The neighbor on Lakeshore Drive who is not securing his trash only got a warning, even after the caller explained that there is an ongoing problem with bears going through his garbage and a representative from Fish and Game has been involved.
1:23 p.m. A 7-foot long piece of house wrap was floating in the sky and heading northward. The caller said the house wrap went up at least 5,000 feet in the air and thought someone should know so a plane doesn’t hit it.
2:53 p.m. A cyclist found a French bulldog on Big Mountain Road and called back to say he had found the owner.
5:10 p.m. The employee of a location on 13th Street reported a shoplifter but was unclear about what had been taken.
6:01 p.m. She thought she set her purse down outside a bar on Central Avenue and surveillance footage showed she had the bag when she left and failed to have it ten minutes later. Now the caller believes she may have left it in her friend’s car.
10:24 p.m. Very loud music was reportedly playing at the neighbor’s house, adding to the ongoing issues on Minnesota Avenue.
May 16
1:34 a.m. Before he headed west from Baker Avenue, the intoxicated male driver was yelling and trying to fight a bunch of people.
3:42 a.m. Workers at a construction site on Colorado Avenue were making machinery/drill-type noises and were advised of the quiet hours in Whitefish.
7:17 a.m. A yellow lab without a collar, but likely in heat, was found and taken to the police department. The owner retrieved the pup from the station.
11:34 a.m. The caller wanted to report damage to his Corvette that happened Saturday on First Street but he didn’t phone the police then because it was raining.
May 17
1:19 p.m. Worried that it might “mess up someone’s car if they hit it,” the caller reported a chunk of firewood in the turn lane on Highway 93.
9:03 p.m. A seemingly agitated male was sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot on Highway 93, arguing with someone, hitting the steering wheel and yelling.
May 18
7:27 a.m. A caller found a hound dog on Haugen Heights and said her husband would deliver the pup to the police station.
9:13 a.m. The vehicle parked on Second Street needs to be towed by AAA in two days or law enforcement will tow it.
12:19 p.m. The bear on the porch of the house on Prairiesmoke Circle, who weighed about 15 pounds and looked like a house cat, was growling and trying to get inside the house. An official from Fish and Game was notified.
4:26 p.m. The caller thought that two cars and a trailer parked on Railway Street were setting up camp and therefore suspicious but the subjects understood the city ordinance and were only taking a break.
6:10 p.m. A very large cylinder approximately 8 feet long and 2 feet wide was reportedly floating in Whitefish Lake near the Bay Point Dock.
9:14 p.m. Concern was shared about a dog in an outdoor cage without water off Wisconsin Avenue. It looks like the owners have not been home in a couple days.
May 19
6:22 a.m. A black lab and a white lab on Spokane Avenue were wearing collars and running around in Whitefish evading capture.
8:35 a.m. A suspicious caller reported hearing an explosion, seeing a white SUV drive away from the area and later observing a plume of smoke coming from a dumpster.
10:14 a.m. There was a complaint about a neighbor’s noise on Waverly Place.
