Charlet Anabel Hannon, 94

In loving memory of our mother, Charlet Anabel Hannon, who passed away on May 9, 2022, after a brief illness surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of Daniel Hannon who preceded her in death in 2003. They were married for 55 years. She was also a loving sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Charlet was born on Feb. 28, 1928, to John and Ann Iversen on the family farm in Jackson, Minn., at the stroke of midnight. It was a leap year and the doctor decided to put the 28 on her birth certificate, but Charlet always considered herself a leap year baby.

She was the oldest of nine children. She cherished her childhood on the farm and her strong connection to her siblings. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Jackson until she graduated from eighth grade. There were never more than sixteen pupils in the whole school, many were her siblings. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1945.

At seventeen, Charlet went to Minneapolis and worked as a secretary. She lived in a boarding house with her best friend Eileen Hannon who introduced her to her brother, Daniel Hannon who had come home from WWII. They were married on May 22, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minn., packed their bags and spent their honeymoon on a train, and moved to southern California.

Dad worked construction until 1953 when he joined the Burbank Fire Department. Charlet enjoyed her roles as wife and mother to her five children. In 1977 dad retired, and they moved to Coeur d’Alene. They enjoyed camping, traveling, spending time with family and friends. Charlet was a talented artist and gifted many relatives and friends with her special paintings.

After the passing of her husband Charlet became involved with Hospice of North Idaho volunteering. Hospice recognized our mother’s kind and giving heart and asked her to be a peer grief counselor. She volunteered for many years in this capacity and always enjoyed giving back to people. This is where she met her dear friends whom they sometimes referred to each other as the “Sexy Six”.

Charlet is survived by her five children, Jim Hannon (Paula), Nancy Wilkinson, Linda Carper (Patrick), Patti Hannon (Butch), and Daniel Hannon (Angie); twelve grandchildren: Jesse Hannon, Stephanie Maidhoff (Ian, rip), Ryan Hannon (Cayla), Katie Gilbert (Matt), Lauren Olin (Chris), Nicole Morgan, Jack Wilkinson, Michaela Turley (Ross), Samantha Ramsey (Josh), Kellen Hannon, Shayna Chastain (Matt), Troy Hannon; and 15 great-grandchildren. Charlet is also survived by her siblings Darryl Iversen, Audrey O’Connor, Mary Ann Naylor (Ward), Burton Iversen, Peter Iversen (Janet), June Jaeger, Janet Gunderson (Lenny); brother-in-law, Terry Hannon; sister-in-law Viola Iversen; along with many nephews and nieces too numerous to mention by name.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Iversen; her brother, Warren; and her husband Daniel and many beloved Iversen and Hannon sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Our mother was a kind and giving person who always put the needs of others before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity. She was a source of inspiration to us all and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Being a mother was her calling in life from an early age as the oldest of nine siblings and then as the mother of five.

She graduated happily to her roles as grandma and great-grandma. Her favorite quote raising her children was “If I could give you just two things, one would be Roots, the other Wings.” Job well done mom.

Charlet was a woman of deep faith. She believed in the power of prayer and miracles in our lives. Hope for people suffering from cystic fibrosis and ocular cancer were two of her many recent prayer requests. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at St. Pius Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815. The family invites you to view a short video in honor of Charlet’s life prior to Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Following the service, the interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
