COEUR d'ALENE — It rained enough in Coeur d'Alene the first few days of June to last for the entire month.
Climatologist Cliff Harris said Monday it has already rained 1.85 inches in June. Normal for the month is 1.93.
"This day isn't over," he said, referencing more showers to the northeast headed this way.
He said the record rainfall for the first six days of June is 2.07 set in 2012.
That year, it went on to rain 5.84 inches in June, making it the wettest June in 127 years of record-keeping dating back to 1895.
Another 2.61 inches of rain fell in July 2012, totaling a record 8.45 inches for June and July.
It's also been cold. The average temperature in Coeur d'Alene starting the first day of spring, March 21, is 58 degrees. This year, it's 48.
The last three days, low temperatures were 49, 45 and 46 — more suited to fall.
"It's going to have to be a pretty hot summer to make up for all this cold weather," Harris said.
But there are no heat waves on the horizon.
Harris expects more rain this week and next. Temperatures could hit the 70s this weekend and early next week, but in mid-June it's projected to be in the low 60s with highs in the low 60s and lows near 40.
Could we challenge that June/July record rain total?
Harris said it's possible.
"It's unbelievable what we're been seeing here," he said.
