PULLMAN - Washington State introduced new women’s golf coach Sofie Aagaard Wednesday as the seventh women’s golf coach in the program’s history.

"Thank you to WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun and Deputy Athletic Director Mitch Straub for showing belief in me and for welcoming us to Pullman to lead the women's golf team in this new era of the program," Aagaard said. "Together with assistant coach Emma White, we will hit the ground running and continue to build of the great program Kelli Kamimura has established. My husband, Christian, and I are looking forward to joining the Cougar family and the Pullman community."

Aagaard comes to Pullman after serving as head coach at Cal Poly for seven seasons. She guided the Mustangs to three Big West team titles, three NCAA regional appearances and was a four-time winner of the Big West Coach of the Year award.

"We are delighted to bring Coach Aagaard to Washington State," said WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun. "Coach Aagaard has risen rapidly through the coaching ranks. Her teams have won conference championships and competed at the highest levels of college golf. She has a proven track record in recruiting and developing talent, as well as mentoring student-athletes to reach their highest potential. We welcome Sofie and Christian to the Cougar family."

During her time in San Luis Obispo she oversaw 13 Big-West All-Conference selections, 12 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars, and four-straight Big West Conference Freshman of the Year recipients. The Mustangs won 10 regular season tournament team titles in Aagaard’s seven seasons at the helm of the program.

As an amateur, Aagaard represented the Swedish National Team for seven years, from 1999-2006. While on the team in 2004 she won Sweden's first gold medal at the World Amateur’s World Championships in Puerto Rico. She began her college career at Mississippi State, where she garnered second team all-SEC honors before transferring to California-Berkeley in 2003. She was a three-time All-American with the Golden Bears, and her teams finished in the NCAA top-five in three consecutive years.

The introductory reception is open to the media and the community as a whole. It will take place on the club level of Gesa Field, and entrances will be open on the south side elevators adjacent to Wilson Road.
