Chinook season extended in North Fork Nooksack River
STAFF REPORT | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 4 years, 3 months AGO
NOOKSACK — A section of the North Fork Nooksack River has been opened for hatchery spring Chinook fishing and retention. The action took place yesterday, and continues to June 30, according to a press release from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The action affects the North Fork of the Nooksack River in Whatcom County from the Highway 9 bridge to a yellow marker on the upstream side of the Kendall Hatchery.
With the extended season, the rules of a two hatchery-Chinook daily limit and a minimum size of 12 inches are in effect. There are also night closures and anti-snagging rules in effect in the area.
The WDFW explained the extended season in the release: “The hatchery spring Chinook forecast was sufficient to allow in-river harvest opportunity, and current catch is within conservation guidelines.”
Poor river conditions for sport fishing since the fishery opened was another reason the season was extended, according to the WDFW. The area will continue to be monitored and dates could be subject to change in the future.
For any questions, anglers may contact the Mill Creek Regional Office at 425-775-1311.
