Youth soccer: Timbers, Thorns FC teams open at President's Cup West Regionals

Grace Hatch and Marisol Stosich scored two goals each and Paige Hunt had one goal for the Thorns North FC 2007 Girls Red team in a 5-0 win over the Eugene Timbers of Oregon to open play at the President Cup West Regional tournament on Wednesday in Phoenix.

Lilliana Brinkmeier had a shutout in goal for the Thorns, who face California Elite in pool play today.

The Timbers-Thorns North FC qualified five of six teams to the tournament, with two girls teams and three boys teams that qualified in the Idaho State Cup in Boise over Memorial Day weekend.

The Timbers North FC 2009 Boys Red team won 3-0 over Gallatin Elite of Montana behind goals from Luke Fritts, Kason Foreman and Taylor Smith. Grant Johnson had a shutout in goal.

The Timbers North FC 2009 Girls Red rallied from a 3-3 deficit to play to a 4-4 draw against Elder United of Utah. Olivia Smith had two goals and an assist, Phinalley Voigt one goal, Tayla Ruchti one goal and Katie Kovatch and Chloe Burkholder an assist each.

The Timbers North FC 2006 Boys Red team fell to the Eagles SC United of Southern California 1-0 in their opener.

All four return to action today, with the Timbers FC 2007 Boys Red opening pool play today.
