U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup: Two Timbers-Thorns teams advance to title games

PHOENIX — The Thorns North FC 2007 girls and the Timbers North FC 2009 boys soccer teams each won semifinal games Saturday to advance to today’s championship game at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup.

Winners advance to the National Presidents Cup July 7-10 in Greensboro, N.C.

Thorns North FC 2007 girls red: Natalie Thompson and Marisol Stosich each scored two goals to propel the Thorns to a 4-3 victory over North Utah Alliance in a semifinal game.

The Thorns will play Albion (Boise) in the final of the U15 girls division today.

Timbers North FC 2009 boys red: The Timbers advanced to the final with a 4-1 win over Phoenix Rising Youth Soccer. The Timbers play Anaheim Fútbol Club this morning in the U13 boys division final.

Taylor Smith had two goals and two assists for the Thorns. Creighton Lehosit had a goal and an assist, Blake Wise scored once, and Jacob Melun had an assist.

Thorns North FC 2009 girls red: The Thorns lost 2-0 to Seattle United in the semifinals of the U13 girls division, finishing 2-1-1 in the tourney.

Two other local club teams, the Timbers North FC 06 boys and the Timbers North FC 07 boys red, finished up group play at regionals Friday.
