VICIOUS WINDSTORMS AGAIN ATTACK AREA
Vicious winds lashed Washington and northern Idaho Sunday evening and early Tuesday, causing damage and power outages in the Lake Pend Oreille area. Winds up to 55 miles per hour hit the area Sunday evening, abated somewhat Monday, then renewed their intensity with 55 m.p.h. gusts early Tuesday. The unprecedented high winds have struck five times since the last week of January. 50 degree temperatures along with high winds and intermittent rain showers, have pushed streams entering Lake Pend Oreille to near flood stage. Pack river is running high and dirty due to rapid snowmelt in the drainage.

Neal Wendle and Edward Hendrickson represented the high school student council at the meeting this week.

“TILLIE’S” FIRST STELLAR FILM COMING SOON
The big picture of the age – that is, the local age – is coming to the Gem Monday and Tuesday, March 13 and 14, when Manager Gardner will present for its first public appearance, “Moonshine Madness,” the first film in which Sandpoint’s premier actress, Tillie Dreisbach, known to the stage as Martha Burke, will star! Because this is the star’s “old home town,” and because Manager Gardner was willing to pay a little more for the film on its first presentation than he otherwise would, “Moonshine Madness” will be shown locally ahead of its release date. Gardner states, however, that only regular prices will be charged.

BROTHERS-IN-ARMS DIE FROM HUN GAS
From the effects of being gassed on the western front in France, two young brothers-in-arms, one Alvin Oliver Halverson of Sandpoint and the U.S. Army, the other Douglas M. Crawfurth-Smith of England and the British army, passed away in Sandpoint this week. Both soldiers were gassed in combat and died of tubercular complications to their weakened lungs.
