State basketball tournament updates

SPOKANE- At the end of day three of the state tournament, three local teams push on to Saturday, two going for the state title.

Five total Columbia Basin teams started in the state tournament with four making it to day three, which was Friday.

For 1A, Quincy High School boys battled against Freeman and lost 72-82. This was their

second loss in the tournament, ending their state run without a placing.

In the 1B category were Warden High School girl hoopers. They played Okanogan and won 68-48. They began playing Saturday at 5 p.m. against Colfax for a chance at the state title trophy.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline and Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School boys represented the 2B category.

MLCA/CCS played first on Friday, beating DeSales 55-41. They move on to Saturday where they will play for the fourth or sixth place trophy against Lummi Nation at 8 a.m.

ACH then saw victory over Northwest Yeshiva 52-43. They move on to the championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday against Cusick.

For both Warden and ACH, if they win the state title, this will be the first state title for each of their respective head coaches.

Additional information will be posted as games are completed and information becomes available.

OLYMPIA — The 2023 Washington Legislature session included bills to support agriculture. House Bill 1138, concerning drought preparedness, is one piece of that legislation. “We’ve been working on that for two to three years,” said Rep. Tom Dent, a sponsor of the bill. “So we get into a drought in different areas of the state and the drought committee comes together and puts together a plan to help people in the drought-affected area to mitigate the effects of the drought, whether it means through use of emergency wells, financial assistance, (or other measures).” HB 1138, requested by the Department of Ecology, adjusts the circumstances in which the Drought Committee is authorized to convene. The bill amends these circumstances to include when a drought advisory is in effect and when a drought emergency order is in effect.

Dent proud of committee’s bipartisan effort in 2023 session

MOSES LAKE – Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, said that there is a lot he has to be proud of from this session, but the thing he was most proud of was the bipartisan effort to tackle bills by him and several other lawmakers. “I think, for me, there were a lot of wins,” said Dent. “The kind of wins that you don’t see.”
