Kootenai County Vandal Booster luncheon set for Thursday at Cd'A Resort
COEUR d'ALENE — The final spring semester luncheon for the Kootenai County Vandal Boosters is scheduled for Thursday from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at The Coeur d'Alene Resort in Cabin 5.
The guest speaker is Bob Rinker, Associate Department Chair for Computer Science based in Coeur d'Alene.

Zags Holmgren, Timme named Sporting News second-team All-American
Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren and Drew Timme were named second-team All-American by Sporting News.
Sporting News team is one of the four the NCAA employs in establishing its consensus All-America team.
Timme received second-team All-American honors for the second straight season by Sporting News.

Drew Bledsoe to be inducted into Pac-12 Hall of Honor
SAN FRANCISCO — Cougar Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Bledsoe is Washington State's honoree for the 2022 class of the Pac-12 Hall of Honor, the conference announced Monday.
It's the conference’s most prestigious recognition of the greatest on and off-field contributors to Pac-12 athletics.
Formal induction will take place on Friday during a private ceremony prior to the semifinals of the 2022 Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament. Following induction, the class will be honored during a special halftime ceremony of the day’s first semifinal matchup at T-Mobile Arena.
The 2022 Hall of Honor class will be the 20th since its creation in 2002, and the fourth to feature legendary figures from an array of sports after the Pac-12 expanded the field to be inclusive of the broad-based athletics success across the Conference of Champions® history. Following a hiatus in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 class returns the annual recognition as a new inductee from each Pac-12 university is welcome into the Hall of Honor.
In addition to Bledsoe, the 2022 Pac-12 Hall of Honor class includes Tanya Hughes (Arizona), Curley Culp (Arizona State), Layshia Clarendon (California), Jenny Simpson (Colorado), English Gardner (Oregon), Steven Jackson (Oregon State), Tony Azevedo (Stanford), Jackie-Joyner Kersee (UCLA), John Naber (USC), Tom Chambers (Utah) and Tina Frimpong Ellertson (Washington).
Boise State's Rice named Coach of the Year, four other Broncos honored in media poll.
BOISE — Boise State men’s basketball coach Leon Rice and forward Tyson Degenhart were named Mountain West Coach of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively, Monday, in a poll of media members that cover the league.
Forward Abu Kigab and guard Marcus Shaver, Jr. were each named second-team All-MW, while Degenhart, from Mt. Spokane High, and guard Emmanuel Akot picked up honorable mention accolades.
The Broncos are the No. 1 seed in this week's Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament. Boise State will open Thursday at noon PST on the CBS Sports Network vs. the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 8 Nevada and No. 9 New Mexico.
WSU's Gueye nabs the final Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award
SAN FRANCISCO – For the fifth and final time in 2021-22, Mouhamed Gueye of Washington State was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week as the first-year Coug took home his fifth award of the season.
Gueye led the Cougs to three wins over Oregon State (twice) and Oregon to ensure the team of its first winning season in Pac-12 play since 2007-08. In the first game vs. OSU, Gueye scored 19 points on 7-of-7 shooting in an overtime win in Corvallis.
Three days later in Pullman, Gueye and the Cougs secured their second win of the week over the Beavers. Two days later, Gueye helped the Cougs past Oregon.
On the week. Gueye averaged 10.3 points per game on 66.7% shooting while adding 4.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.
Gueye and the Cougs head to Las Vegas to begin the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday at T-Mobile Arena. The seventh-seeded Cougs take on 10th-seeded seed Cal in the opening round at 6 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
