A number of candidates have filed to run in the May 17 primary election.

Only voters who are affiliated with a political party may vote in Idaho’s primary election. The purpose of primary elections in the state of Idaho is to allow members of a recognized political party to select that party’s nominees to go on the general election ballot. Primary elections often are referred to as “party primaries.”

As a result of a federal court decision in 2011, the Idaho Legislature passed House Bill 351 implementing a closed primary system.

Below are the candidates on the ballot for the May 17 primary election:

Running for Boundary County commissioner in District 2 (North Bench/Moyie Springs) are incumbent Tim Bertling and challenger Steve Fioravanti.

Running for Boundary County commissioner in District 3 (Paradise Valley area) are incumbent Dan R. Dinning and challenger Ben Robertson.

In the Boundary County clerk race, incumbent Glenda Poston is unopposed.

In the race for Boundary County treasurer, Jennifer Economu is running unopposed.

In the Boundary County assessor’s race, Olivia A. Drake is running unopposed.

In the race for Boundary County coroner, Chad Workman is running against Richard G. Cowell IV.
