Donald Burt Bidwell, age 105, of Spirit Lake, Idaho, passed away on March 10, 2022, in Coeur d’Alene.
Don was born Sept. 5, 1916, to Jess and Virginia Bidwell in Kansas City, Mo. He was the oldest of two sisters, living most of his life in the Riverside, Alhambra, and Palm Desert area of California. He graduated from USC with a major in secondary education. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He went to work for Sears and retired after 35 years. He oversaw several Sears stores in the southern California area.
Upon retiring, Don spent many years living in Palm Desert, Calif., during the winter and Seattle, Wash., in the summer. Upon the death of his wife, Marcella, he went to live with his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Marilyn Bidwell, residents of Spirit Lake, Idaho.
Don became a resident of Spirit Lake at the age of 97. He was so proud to have a current driver’s license until the age of 100! He was a congregate member of Spirit Lake Senior Center and so enjoyed all his friends there. He enjoyed his friendship with Pastor Kim Alexander of Spirit Lake Baptist Church. In the short time he lived in Spirit Lake, he had made many, many friends.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; parents, Jess and Virginia; sisters Virginia and Janice; grandson John.
He is survived by his son Ron (and Marilyn) Bidwell; grandchildren, Teri, Randy, and Lynn (and Ryan); great-grandchildren Taylor, Cody, Kaz, Braedon, Breanna, Ryder, Kale, Zachary; great-great-grandchildren Scarlett, Rowan, Levi; and two nieces, Cookie and Candy. Don was very fond of Dixie Reed and daughter Jordanna Reed, niece and great niece of Marilyn who would come and sit with Donald at times.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m., on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, (Spirit Lake Senior Center dinner meal).
Donald will be interned at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, Calif., alongside his parents.
