Dudettes and dudes will bring in the goods for local food banks during two Jam 4 Cans Charity Rail Jams events this weekend and next.

The ski and snowboard spectacles are returning after a two-year pause brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was something we’re really excited to bring back, especially because a lot of us who are doing it have kids old enough to participate," Jam 4 Cans Charity Rail Jams event director Caleb Foss said Tuesday. "We're excited to give our kids the opportunity to participate in something they love to do and at the same time help the community."

Jam 4 Cans has brought together local skiers and snowboarders to help those in need since 2009. Its goal is to inspire local riders to make positive impacts on their communities while facilitating events that provide opportunities to do so.

"We’ve been disconnected from the local riding community. We’re excited to have that connection again,” Foss said. "We have two things we work for through these events. The first is to collect food and bring resources for the local food banks. The second is to be a positive impact on the local riding community."

The Mount Spokane event is Saturday in the Mount Spokane Terrain Park. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. Competitors receive a $40 discounted lift ticket. Riders must sign the event waiver and register at https://www.mtspokane.com/Jam4cans# by Friday.

The Post Falls event will be March 26 at Summit Northwest Ministries, 1486 W. Seltice Way. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. The event begins at 7 p.m. Riders must sign event waivers and wear helmets. Food trucks will be on hand, as well as

a bounce house and inflatable slide for kids.

"We have a semi truck that brings in snow for us" to the urban rail jam in Post Falls, Foss said. "They’ll haul that in from Lookout Pass. We usually bring over 100 yards of snow, so it’s quite a bit."

Each event requires an entrance fee of 15 cans of food. The donations will support Second Harvest Food Bank and the Post Falls Food Bank.

Prizes and swag will be given out at each event.
