PREP SOFTBALL: Vikings win two more in Tri-Cities

RICHLAND, Wash. — Catherine Bakken hit a three-run homer and Skylar Burke added a two-run shot as Coeur d’Alene beat Richland 11-6, and the Vikings also beat Kennewick 8-1 at Columbia Playfield on Saturday to improve to 3-0 on the season.

“I’m happy with us at the plate; we’re all hitting, with minimal strikeouts,” Coeur d’Alene coach Bobbi Darretta said. “And the fielding was phenomenal.”

Against Richland, Matea Dorame went 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Vikings, Delaney Gosch was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs, and Kristine Schmidt struck out seven in 4 ⅓ innings of relief.

Against Kennewick, Gosch had two hits and drove in two runs, and Burke, Dorame and Bakken each had two hits.

Coeur d’Alene is scheduled to play at Lewiston on Tuesday in a doubleheader to open Inland Empire League play.

RICHLAND, Wash. — The Trojans lost to Kamiakin of Kennewick, Wash., 11-4 and beat Moses Lake 8-4 at Columbia Playfield.

Against Kamiakin, Eden Nye was 2 for 3 with a two-run single in the first inning for Post Falls (3-1).

Maggie O’Leary struck out 10 for Kamiakin, which pulled away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Against Moses Lake, Alyssa Krause hit a grand slam to highlight a seven-run fourth inning, and she finished with five RBIs for Post Falls. McKenna Moak went 3 for 4 for the Trojans.

Post Falls opens Inland Empire League play Tuesday at home vs. Moscow in a doubleheader.

Lake City lost its second game of the day, 14-3 in five innings to Richland.

Hope Bodak hit a two-run triple in the third inning for the Timberwolves (0-3).

Lake City travels to Post Falls on Tuesday for a doubleheader to open Inland Empire League play.

COLVILLE, Wash. — Acacia Pecor’s arm was OK on Saturday.

So was her bat.

Pecor, who left the first game Friday in Orofino after four innings with a sore arm, struck out eight and allowed two hits in four innings as the visiting Tigers beat the Crimson Hawks in nonleague play.

She also went 4 for 4 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the first inning for Timberlake (3-0).

“She was feeling fine today,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “She pitched great.”

It was Pecor’s first varsity homer. Casey Whaley followed with her first varsity homer. Earlier, Ashley Grantham hit a grand-slam to jump-start a 10-run first.

Freshman Jesi Kitchin went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Tigers, including a two-run single to cap the scoring in the first.

Timberlake plays Grangeville on Tuesday at Airport Park in Lewiston.
