Carl William Chapin of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, went to be with the Lord on March 19, 2022. He passed away at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from heart failure, following surgery.

Carl was born September 16, 1943, in Sandpoint, Idaho to Nora May Henneman and Frank Forest Chapin of Edgemere. He was the youngest of five children. His parents moved the family to Spirit Lake for a short time before settling in Priest River, Idaho, where Carl attended all of his schooling and graduated from Priest River High School in 1961. He excelled in his studies and was a 4-year letterman in track, basketball and football. Carl went on to graduate with an Associate of Arts degree in Business at North Idaho College in 1963.

In 1961, he met the love of his life Linda, also of Priest River. They married in September of 1963, at the Congregational Church, which held the distinction of being the oldest church in Priest River, where Linda had been baptized. They continued living in Priest River until 1965, and welcomed their first-born daughter, Wendy. Later that summer Carl took a job and moved his family to Coeur d’ Alene, where he began his career working for Idaho First National Bank. There they welcomed two more daughters, Dana and Julie.

Carl and his wife became members of Christ the King Lutheran Church, in Coeur d’Alene, where he and his three daughters were baptized. Carl and Linda later became members of Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church of Hayden. Carl remained faithful to the Lord for the rest of his life.

The family moved to Dalton Gardens in 1976, where Carl built his first home. He worked during the day at the saw mill and worked through the evening on the home. He had partnered with a friend and became a brick mason for several years, before opening a sporting goods store in Hayden. In 1982 he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska and found work as a project engineer at Prudhoe Bay on the Alaska Pipeline. The following year he returned to Dalton Gardens and built his second and final home. He changed careers and studied to become an agent for New York Life where he excelled and retired after 31 years.

Carl and Linda loved traveling. Their favorite vacation was the Oregon Coast. Together they explored many places throughout the United States and Canada, and enjoyed a special once in a lifetime trip to Europe with his church family. His most memorable adventures were several fishing trips he and his closest friends and family made into the depths of Canada, where they rode their motorcycles, pitched tents, cooked outdoors and enjoyed an abundance of salmon fishing. His hobbies were archery, hunting, fishing, camping, rock hounding and spending time with his family. After retirement, he assisted low-income people with their taxes as a volunteer and also served for many years as Treasurer for the North Idaho Mineral Club.

Carl and Linda celebrated over 58 years of marriage. His family was the love of his life. He was blessed with three lovely daughters, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Frank, his brothers Earl and Mason, and his sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his wife Linda, his daughter, Wendy (Michael) Moss of Post Falls and their children, Michael Moss and Sierra (Gerardo)Trejo Cardenas, his daughter Dana Chapin (Jon Mann) of the Seattle area and her children, Stehl Kensler, Danika Worrell, Trey Grant and Sienna (Nikolaus) Edwardson, and his daughter Julie Lattimore of Dalton Gardens, and her children Carrie Chapin, Carl Chapin, Caitlyne Coman, and Calie Lattimore, as well as four great-granddaughters, Ti’hani, Elliana, Amelia and Aaliyah, one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl was the strength of his family, a friend to many and the center of our home. He will never be forgotten. This isn’t goodbye our dear sweet husband and father, it is until we meet again.
