Lois was born on Dec. 12,1920, to Arthur and Hazel McKenna in Richmond, California, and died on Feb. 27, 2022, in Everson, Washington.

She is survived by her children, Jenett Ashley (Pemberton, British Columbia, Canada), Paul and Pam Scott (Richland, Washington), daughter-in-law, Claudia Kumai Scott (Seattle, Washington), and Tim and Nancy Scott (Everson Washington); and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jim Scott (2008); and son, Robert Scott (2019).

Lois graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with degrees in education, Spanish, French and music. While there, she met James Scott. They were married on Christmas Day in December of 1943, while Jim, a lieutenant in the Navy, was home on leave.

Lois moved to New York City while Jim was deployed and worked for the Rockefeller Foundation. When Jim returned from the war, they moved back to California, where Jim attended San Francisco Theological Seminary and their first three children (Jenett, Paul, and Robert) were born. He pastored at Alameda First Presbyterian Church, Vallejo Presbyterian Church, and then South Lake Tahoe Presbyterian Church, where Tim was born. In 1961 they moved to the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Chehalis, Washington, and then to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1972 where Jim pastored the First Presbyterian Church until his retirement in 1984. Through all of these assignments, Lois continuously provided vital but unheralded support as the pastor’s wife. She taught Sunday School, led youth groups, played the piano and organ and conducted numerous adult and youth handbell choirs in Chehalis and Sandpoint.

Lois founded and taught Creative Kindergarten in the Chehalis and Sandpoint churches from the mid-1960s until her retirement. She was an active volunteer with Friends of the Festival for the years of its existence including two years as president. Lois worked as a Bonner Community Food Bank volunteer for over 20 years and volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary at Bonner General Hospital. She encouraged literacy in adults as a volunteer for the Bonner County Literacy. She tutored many adults over the years, helping some to United States citizenship.

Lois moved to Luther Park Assisted Living Facility in 2018, where she lived until her heart began to fail in January. She joined her son, Tim and his wife Nancy in Everson, Washington, in early February where they provided daily care along with support from Hospice. Two weeks later, she slipped into the arms of Jesus, with family around her bed, and heard the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint on April 2, 2022, at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
