March 29, 1972 – BERTHA JOHNSON RITES
Bertha Elizabeth Johnson, 92, passed away at Sandpoint Manor. Born in New York, she married Peter Johnson in 1902 and moved to Sandpoint in 1904. Her husband practiced law and engaged in real estate transactions until his 1931 death. Mrs. Johnson ran an insurance business for many years and was active socially until last year. Carrying out her wishes, funeral services were held in her home at First and Lake, across from the county courthouse, which had been their home for over 50 years.

CANS GO BACK TO ALLEYS SOON
Tired of looking at those garbage cans in front of your home? So’s everyone else. Take heart. Cecil Ereman of Sandpoint Garbage Service announced this week that alley pickups of garbage and trash will be resumed April 1. Street pickups have been in effect since winter snowfall closed alleys to garbage service trucks. Come April Fool day, those cans will go back where they belong – and that’s no April Fool joke.

Awards for the best sustained characters went to Ida Lindgren dressed as a “rube,” John MacKinnon as a little girl, and Neal Wendle as a baby. The evening was spent in dancing and games and at 11 o’clock a bountiful lunch was served. High school teachers were chaperones.
