PREP SOFTBALL: Sandpoint swept at Moscow; Priest River splits with Kellogg

MOSCOW — Sandpoint’s losing streak reached nine games Saturday with a doubleheader loss to Moscow in 4A Inland Empire League play.

Moscow (7-11, 3-1 4A IEL) won 22-4 and 18-2.

According to coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams of Sandpoint (1-16, 0-4), the pitchers struggled to gain control for the second doubleheader in a row.

“It’s a lack of control, but a lot of it is also coming from fatigue,” Hawkins-Williams said. “We are struggling to put all the elements together at the same time.”

The Bulldogs gave up 18 walks, which is a season high.

“There is no way to defend that,” Hawkins-Williams said. “It puts pressure on us from the get-go.”

Moscow combined for 23 hits throughout the two games, including 12 for extra bases.

“Our defense was off a little bit,” Hawkins-Williams said. “We had more errors than we had in past games and fatigue played a huge part in it.”

Sandpoint plays host to Moscow on Tuesday in a 4A IEL twinbill.
