Sandpoint High School has offered its head wrestling coach position to Scot Davis and Jim Jackson, SHS Athletic Director Kris Knowles announced Monday in a press release.

The duo will work together as co-head coaches, Knowles said.

According to the release, Davis has a long history of building and sustaining championship wrestling programs, most notably at Owatonna High School in Minnesota.

He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in two categories, and has been named the National Wrestling Coach of the Year by Wrestling USA Magazine. He also has over 1,000 dual meet victories.

Jackson is also a program builder and one of the most respected wrestling coaches in the country for what he built at Apple Valley and Shakopee High School in Minnesota.

Overall throughout his career, his teams have won two national championships, 18 team state championships, and have had 75 individual state champions.

As a wrestler, Jackson has an 871-54-4 overall dual meet record.

“Getting either of these coaches individually would have been fantastic,” Knowles said. “But to be able to get them both is a huge benefit for our student-athletes and our wrestling community.”

Both Davis and Jackson have extensive experience working with youth programs, middle schools and clubs.

“We are extremely excited to see the direction these coaches will take our program,” Knowles said. “Sandpoint wrestling has a long history of excellence and I know they will do great things for our program.”

All hirings in the Lake Pend Oreille School District are pending school board approval.
