COEUR d’ALENE — The annual Idaho Gives campaign hosted by the Idaho Nonprofit Center is off to a great start. The campaign started Monday, and by noon Tuesday, more than $1,171,000 had been raised by 4,648 donors in support of 549 Idaho nonprofits, with 26 participating in Kootenai County.
Donors have until midnight Thursday to help the nonprofit center hit its goal of $4 million. In his first year as the organization's CEO, Kevin Bailey is overseeing the fundraiser.
“It’s important to build awareness and tell nonprofit stories,” Bailey said. “It’s about lifting up the value of nonprofits.”
He said much of what residents enjoy about living in North Idaho is directly or indirectly related to nonprofit organizations, from maintaining affordable housing, to accessing local trails.
“Nonprofits are the key to quality of life in a local community,” Bailey said.
Kootenai County nonprofits generate more than $194 million annually and provide about 5,000 jobs. These organizations hold just under $500 million in assets, Bailey told The Press in a March interview.
“This is a big week for nonprofits,” Bailey said. “We’re asking the local community to pick a handful of nonprofits to support. Give what you can.”
