PREP SOFTBALL: Coeur d'Alene on verge of title after sweep of Lake City

COEUR d’ALENE — Delaney Gosch and Matea Dorame had four RBIs each on the day as visiting and league-leading Coeur d’Alene swept a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader from the Lake City Timberwolves 15-2 and 13-2 on Tuesday.
With Post Falls and Lewiston splitting on Tuesday, Coeur d’Alene (15-2, 8-2 5A IEL) increased its league lead to two games with only a doubleheader at Post Falls on Thursday remaining. Post Falls and Lewiston are both 6-4 in league. Lake City (5-17, 0-10) will host Lewiston today in a twinbill at 2 p.m.
In the opener, Kristine Schmidt allowed four hits, striking out seven and hit a solo home run leading off the seventh for Coeur d’Alene. Alexis Blankenship and Matea Dorame drove in three runs each for the Vikings, who took advantage of nine errors by the Timberwolves. Gosch went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for Coeur d’Alene.

POST FALLS — McKenna Moak’s sacrifice fly scored Sophia Solberg to cap a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as the host Trojans edged the Bengals to earn a split of their 5A IEL doubleheader.
Post Falls (15-5, 6-4) and Lewiston (15-6, 6-4) remain tied for second in the 5A IEL after the split, but Lewiston holds the tiebreaker by virtue of winning three of four from the Trojans in league play.
Kailey Cramer, who homered in the third inning for Post Falls, singled to lead off the seventh and scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 5.
In the first game, Taryn Barney hit a two-run single in a seven-run fourth, and a three-run homer in a four-run fifth for Lewiston. Kaitlin Banks struck out seven and scattered six hits for the Bengals.
Lewiston is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Lake City today at 2.
Post Falls is slated to play host to Coeur d’Alene in a twinbill Thursday.

Anna Sande went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run in the first inning for St. Maries (12-3, 4-0 CIL), which will host the 2A District 1-2 tournament next Monday.
Grangeville is 6-13, 0-4.
St. Maries plays host to Kellogg on Thursday.
