Thompson Falls golfer Ellie Baxter and St. Regis golfer Jack Connelly continued their outstanding 2022 golf seasons with victories this past week at the St. Regis Invitational tournament at Trestle Creek Golf Course just outside of St. Regis.
Golfers from nine area high schools attended the tourney on a crisp morning that was more Fall-like than Springish.
Nonetheless, Baxter shot an 18-hole total 91 to win the girls title by two strokes over Seeley’s Mia Nicholas, who carded a 93.
Connelly meanwhile, shot a 41 on the first nine, then a 39 on the second time around for an 18-hole total of 80 for the win. He finished three shots better than Seeley golfer Ari Nicholas who finished with an 83.
A total of 36 boys golfers from nine schools and nine girls from five schools competed in the one-day event, sponsored by Trestle Creek.
And despite Connelly’s individual title, Loyola won the team competition with a 368 and Seeley was second with a 386 total for five players. Superior took third with a 389 score. St. Regis High was fourth in the team competition with a 393 total.
In the girls team chase, only one of the five teams had enough golfers to qualify for the top team score which was a 472 by the Seeley Lady Blackhawks.
Baxter was the only T Falls golfer listed for her team, while St. Regis’ girls team also had one golfer, junior Macy Hill, who shot a 135 for the day.
Six of the boys teams had the required five golfers in the team competition.
Superior’s boys were led by the 89 posted by Carter McLees. Carter Woodson was second best for the Bobcats with a 91, followed by the 93 shot by junior Orion Plakke.
Cael Thilmony led the T Falls boys with a 101, while Brandt Snead was tops for Plains boys with a 96.
Host St. Regis got a 96 from junior Caleb Ball.
Loyola’s boys team was led by the 87 posted by Kaylor Hall. Grace Horton shot a 137 to pace the two-girl Plains team.
Most of the team involved in the St. Regis tourney will take part in a tourney in Hamilton this weekend.
