LIND — A horse confiscated from an Adams County man who was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty had to be euthanized Wednesday.
The horse, a donkey, two dogs and a cat were taken Saturday from a residence in the 700 block of South Longmeier Road, according to information from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Jared Potts, 33, was arrested May 1 and booked into the Adams County Jail on suspicion of three counts of first-degree animal cruelty.
Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner said there had been complaints prior to the animals being seized, mostly about trash around the property.
Adams County Pet Rescue director Kyya Grant said it became clear the horse, a mustang, could not recover.
“She couldn’t get up without help,” Grant said. “She just wasn’t strong enough.”
Pet rescue staff tracked the brand on the horse and discovered she had been adopted in Nevada in 1998.
The animals were evaluated by veterinarians from Sagehills Veterinary Clinic in Othello, and the donkey is still undergoing treatment.
The donkey does not seem to be as old as the horse, Grant said.
One of the dogs and the cat were in good health, she said. The other dog is undergoing treatment.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”

QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
