OSBURN — Despite the cold weather and slight rain, Saturday’s Small Community, Big Hearts event attracted more than 150 locals following the popular Loyalty Day parade.

The event took place to create buzz and excitement about the progress of Lion’s Park.

The city of Osburn, along with Paige Olsen, executive director of Silver Valley Economic Development Corporation (SVEDC), is currently looking into renovating the current Lion’s Park and will add the Fitness Court to the eventual renovation.

Jenna Arthun, Deputy Clerk of the City of Osburn, Marcy Hayman and Olsen were at the forefront of planning this event.

The park was filled with lively children who had their faces painted by Arthun, eating cotton candy spun by Olsen and snacking on popcorn, all free of charge. Drinks were also provided for sale from the Silver Peak Espresso drink wagon.

The concept site plan was shown at the Osburn Lion’s Park event, offering a new design for playground equipment and the location of the new Fitness Court.

“I personally just loved that we were able to provide a free event to our community,” said Arthun of the event.

The following plans for Lion’s Park are to wait on the design ideas and quotes for playground equipment from PlayCreation. Lights will be installed on the existing power poles very shortly.

Arthun explained, “We will be bringing in fill and leveling the west half of the lot to prepare for the new play equipment and fitness court. Then, we’ll probably bring in somebody to pour the slab for the fitness court and concrete for the posts for the play equipment, and then we can install the equipment.”

The reception for the event was incredibly positive. “There is an overwhelming amount of support and enthusiasm to create a safe space for the community to gather. So many people have stated that the park has so much potential.”

The city of Osburn wants to stress the need for community involvement with this project.

“We will take any help we can get in the form of monetary donations, donation of goods or services, and volunteers for fundraising, assembling equipment, or whatever else may come up.”
