SPIRIT LAKE — The Priest River softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to Intermountain League foe Timberlake.

The Spartans lost game one 24-0, and fell 29-3 in the nightcap.

During the second game, Priest River went up against a familiar foe on the mound, Acacia Pecor.

Pecor notched a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts in the Tigers’ 28-0 victory over the Spartans on April 16.

This time around, Priest River notched seven hits and struck out 11 times.

“I think that’s an improvement,” Priest River softball coach Ron Kruse said “We had three doubles.”

Things were different in the opener, however, with Timberlake pitcher Casey Whaley pitching a complete game.

She allowed no runs on just one hit. She also struck out five.

Lilly Freitas started on the mound for the Spartans. She pitched two, and a third innings, giving up 19 runs on six hits.

Walks continued to haunt the Spartans; they gave up 16 walks in the first game, nearly doubling Timberlake’s hit total.

Priest River also committed six errors.

The Tigers scored seven runs on errors and walks.

Madilyn Rose was the lone hit for Priest River in the opener.

She hit a hard ground ball into center field for a single in the top of the third inning.

For Timberlake, Logan Walsh hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for the first runs of the game.

She hit it into center field to score Lily Carhart and Allilah Dykes to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Timberlake kept its foot on the gas in the first inning, scoring six more runs.

Jesi Kitchin grounded into a fielder’s choice, which scored Ashley Grantham to give Timberlake the 4-0 advantage.

Two at-bats later, Alycia Cameron hit a fly ball into center field that scored Kristy Beardsall to give the Tigers a 6-0 advantage.

The final run of the inning was scored off of a Dykes RBI single into center field that scored Carhart.

Priest River ends its regular season 4-17 overall and 4-8 in Intermountain League play. Next up for the Spartans is the first round of the IML district tournament at 4 p.m on Wednesday, May 11 against Kellogg.
