Michael S. Root

Michael S Root passed away Dec. 5, 2021. He last resided in Hauser Lake, Idaho.

Mike was born in Moscow, Idaho in 1950 to Les and Dorthy Root, and brother Les (Woody). He was later joined by sisters Bonnie, Annie, Leah and brother Paul.

Mike passed away at Hospice House Dec. 5, 2021 from complications of COVID. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul.

The family moved to Post Falls in 1959 where Mike resided most of his life with a short time in Wyoming, Washington and Alaska. The past several years Mike lived in Hauser Lake with his kitty Stasch.

Growing up Mike enjoyed teasing his sisters, running off any potential boyfriends, talking like Donald Duck, and play fighting with his two brothers. But, Mom was the first person to knock him out. He jumped out at her in the dark one night when she came home from work. In self-defense she landed a right upper cut to his chin. She layed him out on the dining table. (Our HERO) Mom was horrified she had hit him but didn't know it was him until it was too late.

The Root family lived on the "other side" of the railroad tracks in a Farragut house, but only a block from the river. He teased, whistled and flirted with the girls as they walked by on their way to the beach. While still in school Mike worked as a newspaper carrier and at the Husky Truck Stop. Later he worked at Idaho Veneer, various saw mills, foundries, the Alaska Pipeline, construction and drywall companies.

In 1969 Mike married Sandy Johnson and divorced in 1986. Together they had daughter Michelle (Wilkinson) and son Steven. Grandchildren: Levi, Jessica, Ashley, Michael, Stephanie and Emily. Mike enjoyed watching pro-football and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys.

In younger years Mike played in and started several baseball teams with brother Paul. He also liked fishing, camping, hunting, drag racing and working on vehicles. He enjoyed talking about his younger days when he would look for trouble, and of course he always found it. In his later years he became a quiet man and always appreciated what others did for him. Mike never forgot to call to wish family and friends a happy birthday. And, you could always depend on him to be late.

Celebration of life and potluck lunch will be at Corbin Park in Post Falls, Idaho, Saturday May 14, 2022, from noon to 3 p.m.
