More than 1,100 UI students to graduate this spring

More than 1,166 University of Idaho students applied for 1,674 degrees for the spring semester, which ends Friday, May 13.

Graduates from fall 2021 are invited to join the spring ceremony, resulting in more than 1,700 Vandals receiving over 2,262 degrees during the 2022-23 academic year.

“This is the culmination of hard work and determination, but also perseverance in challenging times,” said Scott Green, president of the U of I. “Our graduates, despite everything they have been through, are ready to hit the workforce and lead their industries.”

Of the 1,166 students who have applied to graduate, 1,059 earned bachelor’s degrees, 282 earned master’s degrees, 66 earned doctoral degrees and 157 earned their juris doctorates. Another 96 are receiving academic certificates and five specialists.

Graduation numbers released now are provisional. Students have until midnight Saturday, May 14, to apply for graduation.

Former State Board of Education President Emma Atchley will receive an honorary doctorate at the Moscow ceremonies. Atchley, who received a bachelor’s in English from U of I in 1970, was also the director of Bank of Idaho and operates the Flying A Ranch in Ashton, where she is involved in raising potatoes, cattle, hay, wheat and canola.

Two commencement ceremonies will be held May 14 at the ICCU Arena on the Moscow campus. At 9:30 a.m., the Colleges of Art and Architecture; Education Health and Human Sciences; Law; and Letters Arts and Social Sciences. At 2 p.m.: Colleges of Agricultural and Life Sciences; Business and Economics; Engineering; Natural Resources; and Science.

The UI Boise commencement will begin 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the Boise Center. UI Idaho Falls will host its ceremony 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18.

A breakdown of degrees applied for by UI campuses includes:

• Moscow: 1,045 bachelor’s, 55 law, 259 master’s, 49 doctoral, three specialist (1,516 total degrees, 1,014 total students);

• Boise: 12 bachelor’s, 102 law, 16 master’s, two specialist (132 total degrees, 133 total students)

• Idaho Falls: Two bachelor’s, 12 master’s, one doctoral (21 total degrees, 19 total students)

• U of I has graduated about 126,000 students with more than 135,000 degrees since its foundation.
