KELLOGG — Everett Hannah capped off his career at Priest River High School on the mound against Kellogg in a Class 3A district 1 loser-out game.
The senior pitched six innings and allowed two runs on six hits, striking out six in the Spartans 2-0 loss to the Wildcats.
“It still hasn’t sunk in that this is the last time I’m going to watch him (Hannah) play,” Priest River baseball coach Mark Schultz said. “He eats, sleeps, and drinks baseball. He gave us everything he had for four years. He’s been a great leader.”
Schultz noted that the Spartans tend to play with more confidence when Hannah is on the mound. They limited their mistakes and only committed one error.
“They played awesome,” Schultz said. “We had our chances and the kids put the ball in pay. I told the kids after the game, they beat us; we didn't beat ourselves. We played really well.”
Kellogg’s Brody Hoffman notched an RBI double in the bottom of the first that scored Brady Hoffman.
Travis Eixenberg then bunted to get on base, which scored Hoffman.
The Spartans loaded the bases in the top of the sixth with one out.
Colton Brooks grounded out to a fielder’s choice; the next at-bat Charles Bennent went down on strikes.
The Spartans ended their season 2-20 overall and 0-12 in IML play.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these guys,” Schultz said. “They never quit. They played until the last out in every single game.”
