SHS track finishes second at 4A district 1 meet

LEWISTON — The Sandpoint track team set personal best marks in 10 different events during day two of the Class 4A district 1 track meet at Lewiston High School.

Perhaps the most notable was junior Rusty Lee breaking his own school record in the 300 meter hurdles.

His previous mark was 39.73 set back on Mar 26 at the Bonners Ferry Invitational. On Friday, he finished the race in 39.66 to qualify for the Idaho Class 4A state track meet on Friday, May 20 at Dona Larsen Park.

Lee also set a personal best in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.56. Which is now a new school record.

Ben Ricks earned a state bid in two more events on Friday, the 800 meters, and the 1600 meters.

He finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:03.47. He also finished first in the mile with a time of 4:32.49.

As a team, the boys finished in second place with a team total of 62 points.

The girls stepped it up even more in the personal best category, setting seven out of the 10 personal best times.

Megan Oulman, Ara Clark, and Payton Betz all set personal best marks in the 1600 meter event.

Oulman earned a state bid by placing first with a time of 5:21.09.

Maren Davidson finished first in the 800 meters event with a season-best time of 2:24.28.

As a team, the girls finished in second place behind Lakeland with a score of 65 team points.
