PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Post Falls boys, girls win regional titles

5A/4A

LEWISTON — On Friday, the numbers just added up for Post Falls once again.

Post Falls swept regional titles, edging Coeur d’Alene 77-71 for the boys title and pulling away from Lewiston 93-79 for the girls title.

“I was a little worried on the boys side,” said Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell, whose team repeated as regional boys champions after winning for the first time since 2004 last season. “But Sammie (Wood) is always crunching the numbers, and we pulled it out. We had a really, really good effort from everyone on both the boys and girls side. Our depth really came through and we were getting points where we needed them. I was really proud of everyone for fighting and getting points where they could.”

Sammie Wood of Post Falls, who won the 3,200 meters on Thursday, won the 800 and 1,600 on Friday. The Trojan girls also repeated as regional champs.

Dalton Wild (11.23) of Post Falls edged Zach Johnson (11.28) of Lake City in the 100. Johnson won the 200.

The top three individuals and winning relays advanced to state next Friday and Saturday at Dona Larsen Park in Boise.

In 4A, Lakeland’s girls claimed their first regional title since 2017. Moscow had won the last two.

Moscow won the boys regional title for the first time since 2019.

Addie Kiefer of Lakeland doubled in the 200 and 400.

The top two individuals and winning relays advance to the 4A meet, also at Dona Larsen Park.
