The golf season at Thompson Falls High is nearly completion, but not before a lone, standout golfer has a shot at bringing home some hardware from this weekend’s State golf championships.

The tournament, to be held at Fairmont Hot Springs, which was also the site of the recent Western Divisional golf championship, was won by Loyola Sacred Heart boys and Three Forks girls teams.

Two local teams competed in the tournament, with Thompson Falls placing tied for 10th in the boys competition, and Plains coming in 12th. Neither school qualified for the team championships at State, but Thompson Falls will be represented by junior standout Ellie Baxter, who shot an 18-hole total of 89, to take second behind individual champion Celi Chapman of Jefferson High (Boulder) who carded a 78.

As has been the case this year, Baxter was the lone Thompson Falls girl entrant but will have a good shot at a lofty finish this year.

On the boys side, no one qualified for the individual title and the boys team as a whole did not make the cut. For Thompson Falls, Nick Tessier was tops for the Blue Hawks with a 101, which was good for 31st place out of 59 golfers. Cael Thilmony fired a 106, Colton Wormwood had a 111 and Lucas Allday finished with a 130.

Plains golfers Drew Carey (127), Will Tatum (129) and Wyatt Butcher (141) all failed to make the cut for State.

T Falls head coach Doree Thilmony said she was pleased with the effort and improvements her golfers made this year.

“The boys all finished with respectable scores,” Thilmony said. “They didn’t quite get there but they are hungry for next season. They improved tremendously and are loving the game”.
