40 Basin track and fielders head to state

COLUMBIA BASIN – With the regular season and districts having come to a close, the time has come for the state competition in Washington track and field. Several schools from the Columbia Basin sent representatives to state in a wide variety of events. 40 athletes from 10 area schools will compete for a championship across the state.
Read along below to see who will represent their school and what event the athlete will compete in.
In the 1B classification:
Odessa
Freshman Mason Wright will be running in the boys 300 meter hurdles.
Sophomore Hayden Schuh will participate in the girls 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles and javelin throw.
Freshman Reegan Carstensen will run in the girls 100 meter hurdles.
The girls 4x100 meter relay will consist of freshman Reegan Carstensen, freshman Lily Starkel, eighth-grader Alexis Eden, junior Ashlyn Neilsen, freshman Kathryn Burnette and sophomore Hayden Schuh.
The girls 4x200 meter relay will consist of freshman Reegan Carstensen, freshman Lily Starkel, junior Ashlyn Neilsen, sophomore Hayden Schuh, eighth-grader Alexis Eden and freshman Kathryn Burnette.
Freshman Lily Starkel will compete in the girls long jump and high jump.
Junior Ashlyn Neilsen will compete in the girls triple jump and high jump.
Freshman Kathryn Burnette will throw in the girls shot put event.
Soap Lake
Senior C.J. Ochoa will compete in the boys long jump.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
Junior Kaylee Wodtka will compete in the girls 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash and long jump.
For 2B schools:
Lind-Ritzville
The girls 4x100 meter relay will consist of freshman Savannah Carruth, senior Sydney Kinch, junior Myra Miller, freshman Claire Wellsandt, freshman Emmy Klewin and freshman Danika Cox.
Senior Sydney Kinch will compete in the girls long jump and pole vault.
Junior Myra Miller will throw in the girls discus event.
Lake Roosevelt
Sophomore Carly Neddo will throw in the girls shot put and javelin events.
1A classification:
Quincy
Senior Jalen Spence will run in the boys 100 meter dash, 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles.
The boys 4x400 meter relay will consist of sophomore Jayden Richards, senior Aidan Heikes, senior Ecduy Gordillo,senior Jalen Spence, sophomore Ethan Gregg and junior Adiel Sandoval.
Senior Aidan Heikes will compete in the boys triple jump.
Senior Reid Thomsen will throw in the boys shot put and discus events.
Wahluke
Sophomore Angel Vazquez-Jimenez will run in the boys 3200 meter run.
In the 2A category:
Ephrata
Junior Joshua Green will run in the boys 100 and 200 meter dashes.
Sophomore Hayden Roberts will run in the boys 1600 meter dash.
Junior Tyler Raine will run in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.
Ephrata will have both a boys 4x100 and 4x400 relay team.
Junior Weslee Kriete will throw in the shot put and discus events.
Senior Cole Hertz will compete in the javelin event.
Ephrata will have both a girls 4x100 and 4x200 relay team.
Senior Hayden Mills will throw in the javelin event.
Othello
Senior Ashley Perez will throw in the discus event.
For 4A:
Moses Lake
Senior Marcus Duvall will throw in the shot put and javelin events.
Senior Zachary Reyer will throw in the discus event.
Senior Ebubechi Abonyi will participate in the triple jump. Abonyi is coming off a record-setting performance at districts, where she broke a 16-year Moses Lake record in the triple jump.

No. 19 Cougars travel to New Mexico

PULLMAN – After taking down Utah State 49-28 at home last weekend, the No. 19 Washington State Cougars will travel to Albuquerque to take on the New Mexico State Lobos, a team that has won four of its last six games after an 0-4 start to the season.
Eagles end season on the court
SOAP LAKE – Having lost to No. 4 Walla Walla Valley Academy in the second round of the 1B State Volleyball Tournament, the No. 13 Soap Lake Eagles dropped into the consolation bracket for a matchup against No. 12 Willapa Valley, who bested the Eagles 3-1 Wednesday night.
Warden Cougars end volleyball season with 14-10 record
WARDEN - After rallying to defeat No. 10 Forks in the first round of the 2B State Volleyball Tournament’s consolation bracket, the No. 15 Cougars fell to No. 11 Davenport Wednesday morning.
