QHS athletes garner all-league honors

QUINCY — Several Quincy High School athletes were recognized on the all-Caribou Trail League teams, including two Jackrabbits winning Player of the Year in their respective sports.
Junior Jorge Nunez was named Player of the Year, along with earning a spot on the first team all-CTL. He is joined by two fellow Jackrabbit midfielders — junior Isaac Lopez and senior Juan Gutierrez — and defender Israel Perez.
On the second team for soccer, junior midfielder Alejandro Mendoza and senior defenders Ernesto Nunez and Carlos Lerena were all awarded spots.
In golf, Quincy senior Emily Wurl was named Player of the Year. She is joined by fellow senior Julisa Trevino on the girls first team all-CTL list. Senior Karla Nunez made the second team all-CTL. The Lady Jackrabbits won the CTL championship.
Senior Trey Bierlink and freshman Jaxon Ferguson were awarded spots on the boys golf all-CTL second team.
The Jackrabbit fastpitch softball team received the Sportsmanship Award. Sophomore catcher Emilee Morris was named to the all-CTL first team and freshman Emma Galloway was named to the second team.
In boys doubles tennis, senior Marty Gonzalez and junior Harrison Hyer were named to the all-CTL first team. Seniors Tim Bensch and Tucker Ronish were an honorable mention on the all-CTL list.
Senior Stephanie Aguirre was named to the first team after qualifying for state. The girls doubles team of seniors Savana Mancini and Emily Townsend received honorable mention on the all-CTL list.
Between the girls and boys track and field teams, the Jackrabbits had 26 athletes earn all-CTL awards. Senior Jalen Spence earned the CTL Boys Track Athlete of the Year, and senior Aidan Heikes earned the Boys Field Athlete of the Year. The Jackrabbits also earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Spence was named to the first team in the 100-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Senior Jayden Richards was first team in the 200-meter dash and an honorable mention in the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Levi Kukes was an honorable mention in the 3,200-meter event. Quincy’s 4x400 relay team of Richards, Spence, Heikes and Ecduy Gordillo was the first team all-CTL and the 4x100 team of Sergio Castillo, Adiel Sandoval, Alex Lopez and Alexis Birreueta earned honorable mention.
In boys field events, senior Reid Thomsen was first team all-CTL in shot put and discus. Aidan Wallace and Heikes both earned an honorable mention in discus and javelin, respectively. Heikes was first team in pole vault and triple jump. Sophomore Ethan Gregg was second team in long jump and an honorable mention in triple jump.
For the girls, junior Jasmine Vasquez earned first team in the 100-meter dash. Junior Joceline Schaapman earned first team recognition in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, joined by sophomore Shea Heikes who earned second team in the 100-meter hurdles. Quincy’s 4x100 relay team of Schaapman, Heikes, Marisol Uribe and Vasquez earned an honorable mention.
In girls field events, Vasquez earned honorable mention in the high jump. Schaapman earned first team in the triple jump.
In baseball, senior Gavin Longwill and freshman Evander Stephens both earned first team all-CTL honors. The Jackrabbits had three players make the second team: seniors Andrew Townsend, Collin Averill and Benji Medina.
In all, 49 Jackrabbits athletes from six sports earned all-CTL honors.
