47.9% voter turnout at May 17 primary

BONNERS FERRY — The Boundary County commissioners canvassed the May 17 primary election ballots on Monday, May 23.
Boundary County Clerk, Glenda Poston said there was approximately 47.9% voter turnout. She said that is a good turn out for the county and is consistent with historical turnout in Boundary County.
Poston said there were many compliments for the poll workers.
It is a hard job, she said. Poll workers start at 7 a.m. and stay until 10 p.m. Members of the Clerk’s office were there until almost midnight.
“They are a dedicated bunch of men and women,” she said. “We had watchers and challengers at every location. Most complimented everyone on the job they did.”
She said there were a few calls to the clerk's office complaining of people “greeting voters with flags and literature” 100 feet away from the polls.
For the 2020 General Election, the Bonners Ferry Herald reported a turnout of 87% with 6,426 of the 7,420 registered voters casting their ballots in Boundary County.
It was a day of record turnout in Boundary County, as lines were forming out from the polling places all over the county’s six precincts.
