COEUR d'ALENE — A man was detained after Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies responded to a possible threat to a school late Thursday morning.
"It was reported that a subject was upset regarding a recent family death, and made statements that he was going to go to the son’s school" and confront some kids, according to a KCSO press release.
Deputies immediately responded to the Garwood residence where the subject was located and tried to contact the male, who initially remained in the home.
"Getting him to come outside was a little bit difficult," said KCSO Lt. Ryan Higgins.
Deputies spoke to another person in the house before the man came out after about 30 minutes, sat down on a bench and talked to deputies.
"It was determined that the father was not a threat to the schools and any lockdowns or safety holds were released," the release said.
As a safety precaution, deputies responded to nearby Garwood Elementary and North Idaho Christian Academy to provide security. No other schools were involved.
The man involved, whose name was not released, was placed on a protective hospital hold, Higgins said. He has not been charged with any crime.
The man is "no longer an immediate threat to the schools or the public," the release said.

As if to prove it, signs on two kennel doors proclaim “I have been adopted! I’m currently waiting to be picked up by my new parents.” One is a timid black mastiff. But the shelter remains crowded. Monday, it has about 50 large dogs filling kennels, including in the new wing oped this year, and there is still a four-month waiting list with names of about 80 dogs that people are looking to surrender pets.

The Young Family’s Foundation launched about a year ago with a mission "to empower young, hardworking families to achieve the dream of home ownership. Even if a family saved $25,000, they would still be $19,000 short of the down payment needed to buy a $550,000 home, which is the median price in Kootenai County. It’s estimated that only about 20% of area households can afford to buy a home.
