COEUR d'ALENE — The city of Coeur d'Alene wants your leaves.

And as of today, you're free to start pushing them to the street.

"Leaf-Fest" is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 14.

Collecting more than 1,000 tons of leaves throughout the city over a few weeks is no small feat. It involves an army of dump trucks, frontend loaders and a team of city staffers.

"Recognize that we have a tough job to do in a very short window between when the leaves fall and when the snow flies," according to a city press release.

Todd Feusier, director of the city's Street and Engineering Department, is scheduled to give an update on the annual program at tonight's City Council meeting that begins at 6 p.m. at the Library Community Room.

Pickup will start south of Sherman Avenue and move north. The city is shooting for completion by Dec. 9.

"Due to weather conditions, equipment, and unforeseen circumstances, city crews are unable to provide a precise schedule of where leaf pick-up will take place," according to a press release.

Here's a few tips from the city:

• Please move cars off the street during leaf pickup.

• Keep leaves about 1 foot from the curb line to allow for water flow.

A few don'ts:

• Place bagged leaves in the street.

• Mix branches, debris or other trash with leaves.

And remember, crews only sweep a neighborhood once. Once they've passed you by, they won't be back, so don't miss them.
