Valarie Ann Scieszinski was born Nov. 6, 1947, to parents Jeremiah, and Roberta (Bales) Mahoney in Ottumwa, Iowa. Val died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho after several years of declining health.
Val’s love for Jesus was evident in the way she lived and honored others.
Val graduated from Ottumwa, Iowa High School and met Denny, the love of her life. The two married Feb. 4, 1967, seven days before Denny departed for the war in Vietnam. Denny and Val enjoyed a special loving life of marriage for 55 years. Moving 26 times from military life to Denny’s life as a United States marshal.
Val had so many loving friends. She enjoyed sewing, working on ceramics and weekly coffee hour.
Val was preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael Whennen.
She is survived by her husband, Denny; brothers, Shane, Bill and Robert Whennen. Val had a special relationship with her aunt, Jo Ann Boyd; and uncle, Robert Boyd; cousins, Sharon Engelenhoven, James “Bud” Boyd (and wife, Trudy), Nancy Hinson (and husband, Dennis), Jean Zimmeran (and husband, Steve).
A Celebration of Life is tentatively planned for spring of 2023. A special thank you to Lacey, hospice nurse for her care on Val’s last day.
