Bigfork Outdoor Recreation Alliance, or BORA, is seeking public input as part of the community-led effort to develop an outdoor recreation plan for the Bigfork area.

This “Recreation Connection Action Plan” or RCAP, is intended to guide safe, connected, and sustainable high-quality recreation access to Bigfork’s superlative rivers, mountains, parks, trails, and Flathead Lake.

According to a release, organizers say when Bigfork area’s outdoor recreation amenities are completed, the Bigfork Area Outdoor RCAP will increase funding competitiveness, build capacity and partnerships, support community leaders and land managers, provide short, medium, and long-term direction.

Members of BORA include the U.S. Forest Service, PacifiCorp, Flathead Lake Lodge, Community Foundation for a Better Bigfork, Bigfork Chamber of Commerce, Bigfork Rotary, Whitney Family, Montana FWP, Flathead Land Trust, and Trust for Public Land.

“Bigfork’s state parks are an important anchor to other recreation opportunities in the

greater Bigfork area, but there is a need to make connections between these opportunities,” Flathead Lake State Park Manager Amy Grout said. “Having a plan in place is essential to receive funding to create and improve recreation assets, explore these recreation connections, and to ensure long-term sustainable recreation in the Bigfork area.”

The public is invited to attend a community meeting on November 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the community room at Bigfork High School. Those who would prefer to attend virtually are invited to a virtual community meeting on November 21 st from 6 – 8 p.m. via Zoom, a registration link can be requested through [email protected].
