RECAP: Local teams prepare for state competitions

COLUMBIA BASIN – Many area teams are off to state competitions after last week’s results, all vying to bring home hardware. Check out this week’s local sports recap with updates on team records and placement through the season.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline

Other ACH results:
ACH volleyball (7-5) fell 3-0 to Wilbur-Creston-Keller in the consolation bracket semifinals of the Northeast 1B Tournament.
Ephrata
Ephrata volleyball got its revenge on Saturday after being swept by Selah in the regular season, defeating the Vikings 3-2 in the Central Washington Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Tigers, 11-5, now prepare to face off against No. 1 seed Ellensburg on Thursday. The winner advances to state while the loser will go to the District 5/6/8 Crossover.
Other Ephrata results:
Ephrata football (6-4) advanced to state with a 17-7 win over Clarkston.
Ephrata boys’ cross country placed 14th at the 2A State Cross Country Championships. The Tigers also had two individual runners compete at the girls’ state meet.
Lind-Ritzville
The Broncos volleyball team bounced back from a second-round loss to Liberty (Spangle) on Wednesday to make their second-straight state appearance, sweeping through the Northeast 2B Tournament consolation bracket. Lind-Ritzville (14-4) is an 11 seed in the 2B State Tournament and plays Goldendale at 8 a.m. on Thursday at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Lind-Ritzville football (7-2) fell to Okanogan 55-7.
Moses Lake
The Mavericks found themselves in a similar situation to last season, facing off Gonzaga Prep late in the season. This year’s game was different for Moses Lake, but shared a similar result – the Mavs fell 28-26 to the Bullpups Friday night, ending their season. Moses Lake’s late two-point conversion attempt was no good and an onside kick landed in Gonzaga Prep’s hands to seal the win. Moses Lake finished the season 6-4.

Moses Lake volleyball (7-9) fell to Eastmont 3-0 in the play-in round of the Columbia Basin Big 9 Tournament.
Moses Lake girls’ soccer (5-12) lost 3-1 to Eisenhower in the play-in round of the Columbia Basin Big 9 Tournament.
Moses Lake boys’ cross country placed 15th at the 4A State Cross Country Championships. The Mavs had two girl runners compete as individuals as well.
MLCA/CCS
The Lion volleyball team is off to state despite falling in the Central Washington 1B Tournament Championship to Entiat. MLCA/CCS defeated Waterville-Mansfield in the semifinals to advance to the championship game and is currently 16-4. The Lions are the No. 13 seed in this week’s state tournament, playing No. 20 Columbia Adventist at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Othello
The Othello Huskies are on to state with their 48-14 win over Shadle Park in the District 5/6/8 Crossover on Friday. Finishing the regular season with an 8-1 record, Othello was rewarded with a No. 5 seed and a home matchup against the Washington Patriots. The Huskies kick off against the Patriots on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Othello volleyball (8-9) fell to Grandview 3-0 in the opening round of the CWAC Tournament and now faces an elimination game against Selah on Tuesday.
Othello’s Kimberly Alcaraz placed 50th at the 2A State Cross Country Championships.
Quincy
The Jackrabbits notched their fourth win on the gridiron this season with a 16-12 road victory over Medical Lake. Quincy had faced off against the Cardinals earlier this season in another win, winning 43-30. Quincy won four games just a season after going winless in 2021.

Quincy girls’ soccer (7-12) defeated Chelan 2-1 and fell 6-0 to Cascade (Leavenworth) in the Caribou Trail League Tournament.
Royal
The Knights locked up yet another state appearance with a 51-6 win over Naches Valley on Friday, finishing the regular season with an 8-1 record. Royal running back Kaleb Hernandez rushed for 131 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries in the win. For their efforts this season, Royal is the No. 1 seed in the 1A State Tournament and hosts No. 16 Cascade Christian Saturday at 1 p.m.

Royal volleyball (9-10) fell to La Salle 3-2 in the semifinals of the South Central Athletic Conference Tournament.
Royal girls’ soccer (8-10) fell to Wahluke 1-0 in the SCAC Tournament.
Royal’s girls and boys cross country teams competed at the 1A state championships on Saturday, with the girls placing 10th and the boys placing 15th.
Wahluke
Wahluke girls’ soccer lost to Connell 2-1 in the consolation bracket finals of the SCAC Tournament on Saturday, eliminating the Warriors from state competition. The Warriors finished the season with a 13-6-1 record. Three of Wahuke’s four tournament games were decided by one goal.

Wahluke football (4-6) finished its season with a 39-12 win over Wapato on Friday.
The Warriors had five runners compete at the 1A State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, all as individuals.
Warden
Warden volleyball was eliminated by Granger in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday, just one game shy of making it to state. The Cougars began the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Goldendale and defeated Cle Elum 3-1 before their loss to Granger. Warden finished its season with an 11-8 record.

Warden football (4-6) defeated White Swan 40-28 in the final game of the season.
Warden girls’ soccer (7-9) lost to Highland 5-0 in the first round of the EWAC Tournament.
Warden’s Sierra Campos placed 62nd at the 1B/2B State Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Wilson Creek
The Devils lost to Waterville-Mansfield in the consolation game of the Central Washington 1B Tournament on Thursday, finishing just one game shy of making it to state. Wilson Creek completed the 2022 campaign with a 7-10 record and will return many of its players next year as the team has no seniors.
