Governor Brad Little will be in Post Falls Friday to dedicate the new North Idaho Veterans State Veterans Home.

“This place is absolutely amazing, beautiful,” said Bryan Bledsoe, president of the North Idaho Veterans Assistance League Inc.

Bledsoe encourages anyone to come see the space and experience the splendor of the new nursing care facility for veterans.

A Veterans Day ribbon-cutting will take place at 2 p.m. at 590 S. Pleasant View Road, Post Falls.

Anyone can attend the dedication, but space in the Pend d'Oreille room where the event will be held has a maximum capacity of 120 people.

If attendees are unable to see the ceremony, they can still explore parts of the building in the open house from 3 to 6 p.m.

Event hosts will be available then to answer any questions and guide people to the accessible spaces.

The opening date of the facility will be later in the month, likely around Nov. 28, as various trim and finish work is completed in the building.

“It’s going to be the nicest facility in the Northwest and possibly the country. It’s unlike anything anyone has seen in the state,” said Cody Schaner, coordinator for the Idaho State Veteran Home, Boise.

The new home is one of four throughout Idaho for veterans with a need for nursing staff, with the closest being in Lewiston until the Post Falls facility opens for North Idaho.

The building houses 64 veterans in individual beds structured around shared living spaces with community amenities.

The facility has four residential wings with 16 private bed and bathrooms centered on a den, sitting lounge, and living area, according to the building plan sets on the Idaho Division of Veteran Services website.

Each residential wing has access to the shared community center with a chapel, barber, bistro, activities center, a multi purpose room, sports club or gym and therapy area. The shared space also has access to a laundry facility, food prep area, maintenance shop and beyond administrative offices.

In a separate space within the building with a separate entrance, the Post Falls Office of Veterans Advocacy will maintain two veterans service officers and an administrative assistant.

The home is roughly 85,000 square feet.

Applications are currently being accepted, and between 40 and 50 have already been received.
