Hayes scored twice as Chiefs snap nine-game skid, beating Tri-City

SPOKANE — Cade Hayes scored his second goal of the night early in the third period, capping a career-best four point night as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Tri-City Americans 7-3 in a Western Hockey League game in front of 6,115 at the Spokane Arena on Saturday, snapping a nine-game losing streak.

Hayes scored with eight seconds remaining in the first period on a power play to tie the game at 1-1 after the first period.

Spokane scored four goals in the second period as Ty Cheveldayoff scored on an assist by Hayes to make it 2-1. Carter Streek, Chase Bertholet and Tommaso De Luca also scored in the second for Spokane to take a 5-1 lead after the second period.

Cooper Michaluk had 39 saves for Spokane (4-11-0-1, 9 points), which travels to Kelowna on Friday at 7 p.m.
