Idaho women's basketball team signs two
MOSCOW — Idaho women's basketball coach Jon Newlee announced the signing of guards Aspen Caldwell of Thunder Ridge High in Idaho Falls, and Phoenix standout Madelynn Muniz.
Caldwell, a 5-foot-7 point guard, was the High Country Conference Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-league. At the state 5A tournament last year, she shot 45% from the field, and averaged 21.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals.
"Aspen is a tough, physical guard," Newlee said. "She is an excellent 3-point shooter, has a good mid-range game, and can also take the ball hard to the hoop and finish through contact. She is a tough defender, and a great rebounder from the guard spot."
Muniz, a 5-10 guard from Boulder Creek High, was her team's offensive and defensive MVP. She was second in her conference in 3-pointers made and fourth in total points scored.
She played for the Jason Kidd Select Girls Basketball 17U Club team and won Grind Session World Championship honors.
"Madelynn is a knockdown 3-point shooter with deep range," Newlee said. "She has a high basketball IQ and does a great job of seeing the floor and makes great decisions with the ball. A tough defender capable of guarding all the spots on the perimeter."

WSU's Leger-Walker named to Wooden Award Preseason Watch List
LOS ANGELES — Washington State women's basketball junior Charlisse Leger-Walker was named to The John R. Wooden Award Women's Preseason Top 50 Watch List, as announced by ESPN.com.
It is the second straight season that Leger-Walker has been one of 50 players selected to the Wooden Award Preseason Watch List. She is the only Washington State women's basketball player in program history to be named to a Wooden Award Watch List. Leger-Walker has seen her name pop up on a few award preseason watch lists already this year, as she was also selected to the Naismith Trophy and Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch lists.
Leger-Walker is averaging 25.0 points per game through three contests so far this year, including a career-high 35 points in last Friday's come-from-behind win at San Francisco.
