Mitchell, a 5-foot-7 senior setter from Lake City High, was named to the Western Athletic Conference first-team, the conference announced. Mitchell has now collected six WAC awards in her four years at GCU, including two WAC Setter of the Year awards when she was also All-WAC first team in 2020 and 2021.She also made the All-WAC second team and won WAC Freshman of the Year in 2019.

The Lopes’ all-time assist record holder reached the 3,000-assist club last month, becoming only the 14th active Division I player with 3,000 assists and a career average of 10 assists per set. Six GCU sweeps later, Mitchell sits at 3,270 assists, totaling 587 during conference play this season to rank first with an average of 11.51 per set. Succeeding offensively and defensively, Mitchell also tallied 136 digs, 17 kills, 14 service aces and three solo blocks during 51 conference sets.

College of Idaho women’s basketball

Riley (nee Soumas), a 5-3 sophmore guard from Timberlake High, had 14 points for the Yotes (2-0) in a 75-70 win over William Jessup last Saturday in Kirkland, Wash.

Carroll football

Prka, a 6-1, 195 pound, sophomore quarterback from Coeur d’Alene High, was named the Frontier Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week after Saturday’s 21-6 win over the College of Idaho in Caldwell. Prka was 17 of 27 for 275 yards and three touchdowns of 63-, 57- and 15-yards. Carroll faces No. 2 Grand View this Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ashley Kaufman

Central Washington volleyball

Kaufman, a 5-8 junior outside hitter from Lake City High, was named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference first-team, the conference announced. It was her second straight first-team selection. She leads the ‘Cats in kills (304) and kills per set (3.04). She’s sixth in the GNAC in kills per frame. Kaufman has started all 26 matches for the Wildcats with 100 sets played. She’s added 263 digs, 35 blocks and 33 aces to her season stat line.

“Ashley also carries the load for us,” Central Washington coach Mario Andaya said. “She’s a triple-double in our world, getting double digits in perfect serves, receptions, passes, digs and kills many times in matches this year.”
