Misty Mountain has little bit of everything

What started as a small coin store in the Seattle area has now become an eclectic Evergreen shop that offers everything from firearms to fine jewelry.

The Misty Mountain Trading Post, located at 1498 Montana 35 in Kalispell, has a little bit of something for everyone.

Owned and operated by Richard and Denise Coonradt, the store opened its doors in Evergreen in August after moving from its former location on U.S. 2 just north of the airport.

“That location was just too small and it was set back off the road a bit. We did fine, but it wasn’t great. We needed better parking and a better building,” Denise said. “We like being a part of the community and we had heard that Evergreen was kind of the rough part of town. That really has not been the case for us. The neighbors here look out for each other and this is a great community.”

“We saw the potential of this location immediately and this building works so much better for us,” Richard added. “The majority of customers we got before were gun people with their wives sitting out in the car. We have so much more than just guns. The new store is much more inviting and we now see a lot more of the whole family coming in.”

With firearms ranging from pre-Civil War rifles to World War II M1 Carbines to modern hunting rifles, it’s definitely a store for gun enthusiasts, but Misty Mountain Trading Post has much more to offer.

There is vintage turquoise and silver jewelry, Montana made products, gold and silver, vintage coins, gifts, antiques, rare militaria and vintage autographs ranging from Abraham Lincoln to Andrew Jackson.

There truly is a little of something for everyone.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., the Coonradts say sales have been increasing since the new location opened this summer.

“We are doing pretty well, considering we missed most of the tourists by not opening until August,” Denise said. “We just hope to keep that going.”
