SEATTLE – The Kraken got back to their winning ways, Seahawks rested over the bye week and the Mariners will have new faces next season. Check out this week’s pro sports recap for Washington’s teams.

Kraken

After dropping back-to-back games to the Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets last week, the Seattle Kraken bounced back with two straight 3-2 overtime wins over the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings.

Against New York, the Kraken jumped out to an early lead with a goal by left wing Jared McCann, which the Rangers quickly matched. Defenseman Justin Schultz found the back of the net in the third period – which was once again answered by the Rangers – before scoring a goal in overtime to give Seattle its ninth win of the season. The win was the first overtime win for Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena.

On Saturday against the Kings, Seattle rallied from being down 2-1 early in the third period. Right wing Daniel Sprong scored the equalizer on a power play under 20 seconds after LA’s goal, and Eberle scored midway through the overtime period for yet another 3-2 overtime win.

With the wins, the Kraken improved to 10-5-3 ahead of their Wednesday night matchup against the San Jose Sharks. Seattle’s 23 points have them in third place in the Pacific Division, behind Vegas and the Kings.

Through the team’s first 18 games, Eberle leads the Kraken in points (15), McCann leads in goals (7) and left wing Andre Burakovsky leads in assists (11).

The Kraken activated goaltender Philipp Grubauer from injured reserve and reassigned defenseman Gustav Olofsson to Coachella Valley on Friday. Forward Shane Wright was reassigned to Coachella Valley on a conditioning loan.

Up this week for Seattle is a home matchup against San Jose on Wednesday and road trips to Las Vegas on Friday, Anaheim on Sunday and Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Mariners

The MLB off-season is in full swing, with players shifting from previous teams to new ones. The Mariners traded for Teoscar Hernádez last Wednesday, a 2021 all-star who won back-to-back Silver Sluggers with the Blue Jays from 2020-2021. In exchange, Seattle sent right-handed pitcher Erik Swanson and minor league lefty Adam Macko.

On Thursday, the Mariners acquired catcher/outfielder Cooper Hummel from Arizona, sending outfielder Kyle Lewis to the Diamondbacks in exchange. Hummel made his major league debut last season, appearing in 66 games for the Diamondbacks.

Seahawks

With the week off after losing in Germany, the Seahawks used the bye week to rest up before a Week 12 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. On Monday, defensive tackle Jarrod Hewitt was signed to the team’s practice squad. Linebacker Jon Rhattigan was designated to return to practice from the physically unable-to-perform list.

Two former Seahawks were named as semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2023 on Tuesday. Defensive end Dwight Freeney, who played for Seattle in 2017, and running back Ricky Watters, who played for the Seahawks from 1998-2001, were both named to the list.
