I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | November 28, 2022 3:30 PM

BONNERS FERRY — Badger girls basketball squeaked out a win over the North Idaho Christian Royals on Nov. 26, scoring 44-39.

In the final minutes the Royals were within three-points of the Badgers, but Asha Abubakari cemented the win scoring off a fast-break for Bonners Ferry.

Abubakari scored eight of her 18 points late in the fourth quarter as the host Badgers held off the Royals in non league play.

Markynn Pluid had nine points and 12 rebounds for Bonners Ferry (3-1), which jumped out to a 14-1 lead.

“We pressured them early,” Bonners Ferry coach Travis Hinthorn said. “And they sat back in a 2-3 zone and we shot 26 percent in the second half. A lot of credit to them, after we got out to a big lead.”

Hinthorn said the Badger bench was light due to the holiday and illness.

Danica Kelly hit three threes and scored 18 points for North Idaho Christian (5-1).

Bonners Ferry travels to Kellogg on Tuesday. JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and varsity plays at 7 p.m. Badgers play at home against Timberlake on Friday, JV at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.
