A Troy family is working to put their lives back together after a fire destroyed their home on the day before Thanksgiving.

Kenneth and Sheryl Hammrich lost their home due to a fire on Wednesday, Oct. 23. One of their sons was also living in the home at the time.

Their daughter, Brittney Scott, said they’ve received a great deal of help from Red Cross, Troy Methodist Church and community members, but they are still in search of a place to live.

“Thank you to those who have helped,” Scott said. “We’re blessed no one was hurt, but it’s been a real ordeal.”

Scott said a gofundme page https://www.gofundme.com/f/9thmvj-family-support? that was established to raise money has been very helpful, too.

Scott said the fire began at about 8:30 a.m.

“The firefighters got it out pretty quickly, but later on it caught fire again and the trailer was destroyed,” Scott said.

She said there wasn’t insurance on the residence.

“Right now, we’re trying to find help to get the trailer taken away and money to pay for the electric pole and then a new place for them to live,” Scott said.

For those who would like to help, they can call Scott at 406-310-8076 or see the gofundme page. As of Nov. 30, the online fundraiser has seen $1,690 in donations.

Scott said the family, members of which all still live in southern Lincoln County, were able to spend Thanksgiving together.
