SENTENCINGS: Not tough enough
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 3 months AGO
Tuesdays paper said “District Judge Scott Wayman sentenced Olphie to a 10-year prison sentence, with parole eligibility after three years.”
Mr. Olphie admitted to shaking the 6-month-old infant, causing great bodily harm and/or permanent disability to the infant. He was convicted of aggravated battery, which is a felony punishable up to 15 years in prison.
The chief prosecutor Mr. McClinton recommended a 15-year sentence with parole eligibility after seven years, yet Judge Wayman cut it down to 10 years and three years parole eligibility.
Another case in the same article, Judge Wayman did almost the same thing, severely cutting the sentence of an adult male, having oral sex with a 5-year-old child.
Seems like the prosecutors are doing their job, yet this judge does not seem to care about children. If we cannot protect children, what does that say about us as citizens? Is this a case of another liberal judge letting criminals getting away with their crimes?
As a former deputy sheriff, there is no worse crimes than those against innocent children. Admittedly, I could be wrong about this judge, but two cases against children and he reduces them both. Seems like a pattern to me.
Maybe the paper left out some other facts.
