ASSESSOR ELECTION: Write in Bob Scott
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 3 months AGO
As a conservative, I typically agree with the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee’s recommendations. KCRCC rightly prioritizes a commitment on the part of each candidate to govern, if elected, from a constitutionally conservative philosophical perspective.
However, KCRCC’s decision to persist in endorsing Bela Kovacs for county assessor is not a suggestion I intend to follow. As with their previous choice in previous election cycles to stand by David Reilly, KCRCC is confusing stubbornness for commitment.
For me, a candidate’s conservatism must be coupled with competence. Mr. Kovacs’ approach has caused a mass exodus of talented people from the county Assessor’s Office.
Many of these have publicly stated that their departure was made necessary because of Mr. Kovacs’ management. They simply would not abide working for him for one moment longer than they absolutely had to.
I personally do not know what is flawed about Mr. Kovacs’ leadership. However, when many people of good reputation independently decide that throwing their professional life into chaos is preferable to remaining in a deteriorating job situation, it speaks volumes. I cannot imagine that serious adults with families would take such a risk without having a compelling reason.
Bob Scott, who has chosen to run against Kovacs in the primary and as a write-in candidate in the coming November election, has a solid professional reputation. He has earned the respect of his peers. He shows the moral courage to oppose Kovacs while still working with him.
Write in Bob Scott for county assessor!
